Tank Linings

If your tanks are aging, approaching end-of-life, or you’re facing the next wave of compliance and compatibility pressure, a full UST replacement can be the cleanest path forward.

We plan and execute tank replacement projects with a focus on safety, minimal disruption, and clear documentation, allowing you to move forward with confidence and keep your site operating.

Benefits of Tank Linings

As fuel requirements evolve, many owners find themselves wondering: “Is my system still compatible?” When replacement isn’t the best option, lining may provide a practical path forward—especially for fiberglass tanks that can reasonably deliver additional years of service after inspection.

Key Benefits of Fiberglass Tank Linings:
  • Improves fuel compatibility for modern blends, including 100% ethanol fuel
  • Extends the service life of a structurally sound tank system
  • Helps reduce the chance of unplanned downtime and emergency work
  • Can be a cost-effective option compared to full replacement (when appropriate)
  • Creates a documented, repeatable process you can show stakeholders
  • Supports cleaner long-term operation when tanks require cleaning and restoration

Cleaning and Inspection

Any tank lining project starts with an internal cleaning and inspection process to verify the tank is a good candidate for lining. If the tank isn’t structurally sound or can’t reasonably deliver the additional service life you need, we’ll recommend full replacement instead.

Our cleaning and internal inspection process may include:

  • Pumping out remaining product as required
  • Purging the tank to a safe level for entry
  • Physically entering the tank with proper PPE
  • Removing residues/sludge, cleaning thoroughly, and drying the tank
  • Performing a detailed internal visual inspection
  • Checking for defects or issues that would impact lining performance
  • Conducting testing as required to support a safe, informed decision

Depending on your tank type and project needs, our testing capabilities also include:

  • Steel thickness testing (UT scan) and integrity evaluation
  • Interior lining tests such as thickness, hardness, and holiday (spark) testing
  • Tightness and hydrostatic testing
  • Cathodic protection testing (impressed current and galvanic)

If lining is the right option, we can document our process and materials used so you have an educational resource to share when customers, regulators, or internal stakeholders ask questions. This can be especially helpful for determining ethanol compatibility and manufacturer support for the system.
